Karakorum

This generously sized crescent shaped shawl is worked top down in shifting colors with optional beading. The textured stitches gradually become lacier as the shawl progresses outwards, representing approaching mountain ranges that gradually draw near on the long journey along the Silk Road.
Except for a few rows at the border and the double yarnovers in the first lace pattern, most of the shawl is patterned on right side rows only, allowing for resting rows on the wrong side.

Silk Road

Through deserts dry and mountains high
past snow and ice and deep blue skies.
From lands of sunrise way afar
We make our way to reach Kashgar.

From far we come and far we walk
from dawn each day till it gets dark.
Dark loom the mountains, drawing near
through foothills steep, valleys appear
and glaciers glint in fading light
snow capped peaks come into sight.

Khyber Pass

Khyber Pass is a striking top down crescent shaped shawl with lace sections that alternate with a garter and eyelet pattern.
The garter ridges add warmth and substance for your trip over the high mountains and the lace, inspired by snowcapped summits and frost, adds an element of lightness.
All wrong side rows are rest rows, making for a relaxing yet satisfying knit.

Silk Road

Through deserts dry

past snow and ice
and deep blue skies,

We travel on,
starting at dawn,
on paths that take us further west,
‘cross passes high, ere we may rest.

Take campfire warmth with you wherever you go with this easy to make cowl.
Cowl can be worn wrapped twice or simply folded and tucked in. The look of embers as well as the texture is achieved through a simple drop stitch pattern which makes it possible to get dramatic results with little effort, as you are using only one color per round!

This asymmetrical shawl begins at the shore and slowly
rows out to deep sea, starting with a cool blue at the tip and
gradually increasing until the knitting has left the sunny shallows
far behind and is adrift in open ocean. As pleasant and
rhythmic a knit as waves on a beach, this shawl is named for
a line in The Tempest. that at once tells about the untamed
yet gentle waves.

[/x_text][x_line][x_text]

A moonlit haze shrouds over meadows as fog rises from the warmer water in the cooler autumn nights and silver dew forms on everything. The water splashing and sparkling on rocks and the silent ripples and water-movements that are left behind by unseen tail flicks of swimming creatures hidden under the still surface of the water all found their way into this shawl.
Worked from the top down with optional beading, this shawl celebrates water in its myriad of forms:
Ripples, spray, mist, fog and sparkling dew in the moonlight.

I find my way through rocks and stones,
streamlines form where fish do roam.
Bleak rocky shore changes to brush,
fish and frog do like the lush
undergrowth, to hide and thwart
kingfisher’s eyes are very sharp.

And fog ebbs into meadows thick
as cooler nights are nearing quick.
From mountain stream down to the sea,
mist and dew will follow me.

Nymphea

This top down shawl is named after the wild waterlilies, though you may only see a few lilypads and flowers on the surface, the plant underneath the water is much larger with leaves on long underwater stems tangling like vines and buds growing upwards.
Delicate lace patterns intersect and converge, depicting the various parts of the lovely water lily: buds, flowers, stems and lilypads.

Riversong

When beaver dams invite to slow,
I spread out wide and deep I grow.
Lingering here I see a fawn,
a silent heron, looking on.

Wild roses dot the banks I see,
showering petals onto me,
and waterlily pink in bloom,
I see in ponds I pass in June!
